The East Coast ocean resort town of Atlantic Beach, North Carolina, located on the ocean side of Bogue Sound across from Morehead City, built it's first bathing pavillion in 1887. Although most of the original buildings that were the beginnings of Atlantic Beach as a restort town are no longer there, Atlantic Beach has developed into a prosperous, and nationally well-known ocean resort area, drawing visitors from across the nation. With its many beach accommodations, fishing piers, marinas, restaurants and shops, as well as the proximity of one of North Carolina's most visited state parks (Fort Macon State Park and its historic fort), and the North Carolina Aquarium at Bogue Banks, Atlantic Beach is multi-faceted ocean resort.
